“Unexpected end of archive” — your RAR is cut short. Here's what's still inside

free · in your browser · nothing uploaded

What happened to your file

This error means the archive ends before it should: the file is truncated. The classic causes are an interrupted download, an upload to Google Drive™ or another cloud that was cut off halfway, a full disk, or copying that was stopped early. The beginning of the archive — including the index of its contents — is usually intact; the tail is simply missing.

The good news about truncated RARs

RAR archives store files sequentially. If your archive was cut at 60%, roughly the first 60% of its files are still physically there and extractable. Most tools refuse to touch a truncated archive at all — you get an error instead of your files. Fileglass reads whatever is present: it lists the full directory (the index survives truncation), extracts every complete file, and tells you exactly which ones were lost with the missing tail. In our tests with archives cut at 50%, the majority of files came out intact.

Before anything else: can you re-download?

If the original source is still available, a fresh complete copy beats any recovery. This page is for when it isn't — the source is gone, the upload was one-way, the original machine died.
